Cockburn School

Goldthorpe Cup Winners 1905-06

Cockburn 6 Richmond Hill 0

The final played on April 11th in front of 3000 spectators was a very exciting game that remained in doubt almost until full time. With the scores locked together at 0 - 0 and the prospect of extra time looming Walsh went over for Cockburn, there was no conversion but moments later Jowett sealed the issue and Cockburn last seasons runners up had defeated Richmond Hill 6 - 0.

Referee Mr Lumley was assisted by both Albert and Walter Goldthorpe who ran the line and afterwards Albert's wife made the presentation of the cup and medals.

Cockburn High School at this time stood on a site in Burton Road, off Dewsbury Road in what really is Hunslet Moor.
